Life on Mars

To Mars’ surface, the atmosphere on Mars is comprised of regolith, various different materials that are stacked together with suction to form the soil. These microstructures create depressions on the surface and are not completely devoid of water. Plumes of vapor rise through these depressions, carrying water vapor with them. These clouds of vapor are formed by the heat of the Martian atmosphere and may grow to be hundreds of kilometers high. During the course of an extended space mission, the majority of these clouds of water vapor would be above the atmosphere, forming small scallops of clouds that are shielded from the heat of Mars. The water vapor clouds that form through the vacuum of space could eventually leave the surface of Mars with little evidence of gravity to act as a resistance.

These water vapor clouds on Mars may have been formed within a few hours after the sun filled the thin atmosphere. As the water vapor clouds collect on the surface of Mars, the Martian atmosphere is severely reduced, creating a vacuum of the atmosphere. This vacuum is what accounts for the absence of moles and debris that could be seen on Earth. With the vacuum in place, there is a severe reaction of the water vapor clouds to the heat of the sun, stripping the molecules of water vapor of their moisture. In doing so, the water vapor clouds should then dry up, causing the water vapor clouds to disappear into the atmosphere. These clouds would eventually dry up, leaving little evidence that water vapor streams down from the surface of Mars.
